So, here we are in June and the final book in The Witch’s Foundling series, Shadow of the Djinn has been released! It’s strange but I’ve been feeling both elated and drained, happy and a little sad. I think it comes down to the satisfaction of having completed the series and saying goodbye to all the different characters that I love. I mean, if I didn’t love them, I wouldn’t have been spending the last few years writing their story. It’s been a wild ride but it’s actually not over yet. Marketing for the books continues. Yay! (that was sarcasm).
In the book market, readers tend to favour series over standalone books. My feeling is that when they grow to love certain characters, readers want more and more. But still, all good things must come to an end. So, wrapping up the series in, what I believe is a very satisfying way, if a little bittersweet, can deliver a feeling that will draw readers back to your books. Hopefully, they’ll also leave reviews online and pass the word of mouth recommendation along. In my writing, I’ve tried to keep Maya Angelou’s advice in mind.

As I plan for further marketing of The Witch’s Foundling series, I’ve also been writing on a spinoff series. It’s something I’ve mentioned before, based on the supporting characters, Tobias Dahlrimple and Agnes MacGregor. It also prominently features Agnes’s brother Graeme and Tobias’s adoptive father Prof. Phineas Dahlrimple. You’ll get to read about their first case together and some of their adventures beyond their interaction with Sally and Samdriel at Briarstone Manor. Aside from that I also have an idea for another series within the world of The Witch’s Foundling but set in contemporary times. However, that’s only in the priliminary stages at the moment.

That’s all I’ll reveal about those projects for now but I’ll be sharing more news as I progress. At present I still need to focus on promotion for The Witch’s Foundling series. To that point, I’m including here an image and link to Shadow of the Djinn’s listing with Book Sirens. You can get a no-cost digital copy of the book there. All I ask for is an honest review on the platform of your choice. Reviews really are a tremendous boost for indie authors. However, if online is not for you and you truly enjoyed my books, I’m all for word-of-mouth, too. Thanks in advance and check out out our News! page on the website for appearances I’ll be doing. Fingers crossed, maybe I’ll see you at one.
FEATURE DESIGN OF THE MONTH
Being so busy with my book promotion and lining up appearances/events, I’ve been through some of my older designs and looking to give them a boost. With all that’s been going on in the world and with all the noise and confusion, sometimes it’s a struggle to feel heard. Or maybe you have a cause that you feel needs some attention. That’s what brought this design to mind. Let the lion’s roar express your opinion and draw attention to what needs to be recognized. You can find this design on t-shirts, stickers, mugs, notebooks and more at our Redbubble store. Stay strong and make yourself heard!
