What tales we tell!

I must confess to something. Recently, I got sucked into “doomscrolling”. Now, that is a problem for thousands (actually more) of people. However, I’ve found it can be both detrimental and bizarrely inspiring for an author. It’s a problem when you spend more time scrolling than writing. It can also be a strange source of ideas for stories (especially dystopian tales).

All storytelling derives from the question: “What if?” Looking at life around us and online, there’s a lot going on to spur potential ‘answers’ to that question. Which, ironically, helped me find the focus for my latest project.

I’m getting ready to ask for beta readers for the first book in The Light Seekers series. However, once I finished the third draft, I actually began work on the second book. And then changed the direction of that book three times. Then, shifted scenes around. Then, introduced characters I hadn’t originally planned on. Then, found a theme that really connected with the main story I wanted to tell. Then, lost the momentum of the story and got distracted by the doomscrolling. Then …. you get the picture. Ironically, though, it kind of led to a bit of an “Aha!” moment. That’s the life of an indie author for you. I’ll admit some of the inspiration came from some of the online news and taking a skewed, ‘What if?’, look at it.

This is a long-winded way of saying I think I’ve found the true central theme to my story in the second book of The Light Seekers series. Hopefully, this doesn’t sound too presumptuous for my humble novels. My foremost desire is to write tales of adventure, romance, magic and more; stories people can enjoy as a break from a world where the wicked don’t always get their comeuppance. And boy, are there certain characters out there, I wish would get a hard dose of Karma. You might have a few ideas in that regard yourself. In any event, look out for news about my latest work – the first adventure of Agents Tobias Dahlrimple and Agnes MacGregor!

As an added note: I’ve got two appearances confirmed for 2026 and am working on getting more; keep an eye on our social media and our News page for the latest.
