Happy Holidays! I hope anyone reading this, is entering December with hope and grace. A lot has happened this year. The biggest, being the completion of The Witch’s Foundling series! Even though I’ve been working on some new ideas, for a while, I’ve struggled with what to do next. The turmoil of this year has spurred so many questions. Is my new story idea, worth it? What’s the point of continuing when some AI hack can churn out “novels“, 5 Xs faster than I can? Will I ever get anymore reviews? Why is marketing so draining? What if the ideas (shudder)stop? That last one, is where any Creative person’s darkest fears live – a yawning void of blankness. There are so many fantastic indie novels available, where does my modest story fit? You can perhaps, understand where I’m gong with this.
The indie route, for author or artist, can be a great challenge. Not to say a traditionally published author doesn’t face obstacles, but an indie faces them alone. Recently, I’ve seen posts by other indie authors declaring how they feel like they’re yelling into a void while trying to market their books. With all the great novels out there, I think it’s not a ‘void’ but rather a ‘cacophony’. Add distracting Marketing scammers, who are getting more sophisticated every day, preying on indie authors with promises of exaggerated success, (that’s a whole other blog) and the struggle gets even more complex. Motivation waxes and wanes. Ironically, whenever I feel on the point of giving up, that’s when something, or someone, happens that pushes me forward. So, you can expect more from me. I’m just not certain at this point what form that may take.
Sales of The Witch’s Foundling series haven’t reached the numbers I had hoped. This means I’ll be looking at numerous different approaches for getting The Light Seekers (working title) published. That may include doing it completely on my own; learning interior formatting, cover design, setting up distribution channels, etc. You get the picture. It may mean it will take longer to release this spinoff series. in the meantime, you can keep up to date by following SillWill Studios on Facebook, Instagram and Tik Tok. We’re presently working on re-setting up the sign up form for our newsletter but you can reach out directly through our Contact Page. (Unless you’re a Marketing scammer – then, get lost!) Yet if 2025 has taught me anything, it’s that anything can happen. Be prepared and be open to the change. Except for AI – Trash that crap!
