So, I’ve been away for a while and some things have happened. I suppose the biggest was that I visited Malawi, in Africa. Not something I’ve done before but can honestly say I loved. Unfortunately, the cold I had during the trip became full-on bronchitis by the time I returned – just in time for the smoke from Canada’s wildfires to reach our area. It knocked me off my feet.
I’m also experiencing vision problems that make reading, writing and staring at a screen for prolonged periods rather difficult. I’ve strained my writing/drawing wrist, as well. Between trying to come up with engaging social media content and working at my day job and dealing with my health issues, having the motivation to be creative has taken a hit. Yet, I have written another book. I’ve previously spoken about it here and started another.
I should be reaching out to Beta Readers to read my manuscript and give me feedback. I should be posting on SM more often. I should be working on new illustrations. Yet, procrastination has tied a noose around my intentions and drained my creativity. At least for the moment. It’s taken a LOT of pushing myself to get back to this blog. Is it worth it? Am I fooling myself? Is anyone actually reading this?
You might get an idea where I’m at right now.
Sorry, if this sounds depressing. Perhaps I need another vacation (not that Malawi was entirely a vacation). In the few years since starting this journey, many things have changed. On many fronts, it’s darker, more confusing and I wonder if I’m writing simply to fade into the vast background of a million other books. Can I ever hope to find my readers among the overwhelming mountain of AI slop flooding the market?
There is a spark left, however.

You can check out a list of authors and artisans, here.I will be having cataract surgery in early September but fully expect to raring to go by September 19th. Being able to talk to people face to face, including other authors, is something I’m truly looking forward to.
It’s being held at DeGroot’s Nurseries, 1840 London Line, Sarnia, Ontario, N7W 1B6; 10 AM to 4 PM. My friend and fellow author, Cynthia Brubaker will also be there. It looks to be a fantastic day.
